While sticking to a healthy diet and a regular exercise regime are the best ways to lose weight, many people just can’t seem to get rid stubborn fat from problem areas. This is particularly true for thighs, buttocks, hips, stomach, arms, neck and knees.

Liposuction is a surgical procedure that targets these problem areas and leaves your body more sculpted and toned. Liposuction at Cairns Plastic Surgery is also referred to as liposculpture or suction assisted lipectomy (SAL).

Liposuction is a solution for people wanting to remove significant amounts of fats from problem areas of their bodies. There are several factors we need to take into consideration when determining if liposuction could be a solution for you.

This procedure is not an alternative to treating obesity, which is why we have relatively select criteria to see if you fit the candidacy. The best candidates are those of relatively normal weight, who exercise regularly, and have a stable diet.

Liposculpture is generally performed as a day surgery under general anaesthetic. Prior to surgery, the surgeon marks the areas of the body where the fat is to be removed.

Liposculpture begins with a small incision in the area to be treated. A thin cannula is inserted into the incision and the unwanted fat is removed with a high pressure vacuum, leaving the skin muscles, nerves, and blood vessels intact. Post-surgery, a tight compression garment is worn for two to six weeks to help contour the body.
