Surgery is always your decision, so being part of the planning process is undoubtedly an important aspect. You must ensure that you’re taking responsibility for your health, your body and your decisions.

You must enter into this decision knowing that plastic surgery involves time for planning and recovery, and you must be realistic in your expectations – not everyone will achieve the same results from the same surgical procedures.

You also must understand that plastic surgery does come with potential risks and complications. Existing medical problems and smoking increases your risk of complications. Your surgical procedure cannot be reversed. Pain, bruising and swelling of skin and surrounding tissues can be expected. Whether you are having a facial or skin procedure or breast augmentation, you will need to allow time for your body to recover after the surgical procedure has been completed.

Education prior to plastic surgery is the key to a positive outcome. From your initial consultation, to additional research and reading materials, Dr Hertess and her supporting staff endeavour to educate you to the best of their abilities regarding your surgical procedure.

We guarantee confidentiality, respect, and discretion from our Plastic Surgeons and all staff. To ensure a stress free recovery, ensure honesty when speaking with your surgeon about previous surgeries, anaesthetics and medical problems. Discuss your current medications and what pain relief you will require after your cosmetic surgery.

Ensure you understand which medications should be ceased prior to surgery, as some anti-inflammatory medication can impact on your surgery.

Here at Cairns Plastic Surgery, we want our patients to be as comfortable as possible during treatment and recovery. It is important to be aware that your daily routine will be disrupted for a period of time after surgery, and protective measures must be taken to ensure a speedy recovery.
