Trends in Plastic Surgery are forever changing and are usually influenced by the latest choices made by popular celebrities. This year seems to be the year of bottom surgery as women and even teenage girls are seeking surgical procedures to copy the look of famous celebrities such as Kim Kardashian and her famous round bottom! It seems in this day and age, a big, round bottom is a must-have to be attractive for many women! It’s important to consider where this obsession comes from? Is it the pressure to look more like celebrities such as Kim Kardashian or J Lo? Or does the pressure come from peers or the desire for the perfect body?
The procedure is known as Buttock Augmentation or The Brazilian Butt Lift (BBL) and is increasing in popularity in Australia. Currently, there are two options for women that wish to enlarge, lift or reshape their buttocks.
- Fat Transfer – The surgery involves women getting fat removed from other body parts such as the thighs or abdomen and injected into their buttocks.
- Implants – This surgery involves inserting butt implants through a small incision.
With the increasing trend to seek the perfect body, it has never been more important to carefully consider the decision to have any plastic surgery done. At Cairns Plastic Surgery, we always provide people with two very important pieces of advice:
Do it for yourself
The decision to proceed with any type of plastic surgery is an important one that needs careful consideration. There are a number of reasons why women decide to have plastic surgery. Some women feel that plastic surgery will make them feel empowered, more feminine, and even increase their self-confidence. Whatever the reason, if a woman chooses to have any plastic surgery, the decision should always be their own personal choice. They should never feel pressured by partners or peers to have surgery to seek perfection for their sake. Even celebrities are pressured to seek perfection with plastic surgery as outlined recently in an article in New Idea. Kim Kardashian’s partner Kanye West reportedly has been applying pressure on the actress to have more surgery on her bottom to make it bigger and rounder!
Consider the risks
With any type of Plastic Surgery, there are always risks involved. Anybody that is considering plastic surgery will have to decide if the surgery is worth the risk of potential complications. According to the Australian Society Of Plastic Surgeons, there are a number of potential risks and complications that can occur with buttock surgery. Some of these specific to buttock surgery can include:
- Visible and prominent scars such as keloids and hypertrophic scars.
- Numbness and pain around the operation site.
- Skin that doesn’t heal.
- Tightened skin leading to restricted movement.
- Irregular skin surface.
- Asymmetry of the buttocks.
- Fluid accumulation under the skin (seroma).
- Possible need for blood transfusion
- Some fat in the area can have poor blood supply leading to discharge from surgical wounds or lumps.
At Cairns Plastic Surgery, we currently don’t offer buttock surgery as we consider it too dangerous. In fact, currently in Cairns, no Plastic Surgeons are offering butt surgery for this same reason. Some Surgeons in other parts of Australia are offering it, despite the obvious risks. At Cairns Plastic Surgery, we also strongly believe that plastic surgery should only be done for the right reasons and not to please a husband or boyfriend.
