The IPL System continues to revolutionise the field of aesthetic surgery and is specially engineered for combating excess or unwanted hair. IPL treatment effectively and permanently removes hair faster, more reliably and more comfortably than other methods including Electrolysis.
The new laser or IPL beams allow greater penetration and are equipped to target the pigment located in hair follicles (pigment gives hair its colour). These beams vaporise and destroy / significantly impair the hair's ability to regrow. Cooling devices on the tips of the hand pieces cool the skin on contact; protecting the skin while directing the laser energy to the hair follicle. This further increases its effectiveness, comfort and safety.
Most people are able to have laser hair removal. Unsuitable candidates include those who are currently pregnant (breast-feeding does not preclude you from treatment), patients prone to skin discolouration or keloid scarring, and patients who want grey, white, red, or very fine hairs removed (as these hair colours do not work).
Usually, there is some redness and possibly minimal swelling of the treated area. This may last for a few hours or more than a day before settling without any residual marks. Make-up can be worn soon afterwards if required.
