This goes without saying. Does your plastic surgeon have the education, experience and skill to undertake your chosen surgery? A qualified and trustworthy surgeon will have gained tremendous experience performing a wide variety of surgeries on a regular basis.
When choosing a plastic surgeon, it won't be uncommon to undertake consultations to meet several surgeons and find out about their level of experience. It's also the right time to ask many different questions (even the ones you think are silly or embarrassing!)
A trustworthy surgeon will not shy away from the tough questions. Your surgeon will clearly and rationally explain every facet of your surgery. There will be parts you mightn't want to hear, like risks and surgical complications as well as expected side effects, and no guarantee of results.
Perhaps most importantly of all, your surgeon should be able to honestly explain whether you are the right candidate for your desired surgery.
How do you feel after your first (or second, or third) consultation? Your emotional connection is an important part of your journey. Your surgeon should make you feel comfortable during a time where you have many queries that need to be addressed, and you should have confidence that they are addressing all your points of concern.
Does a consultation with a plastic surgeon clearly detail the procedure – including associated risks and complications – expected outcomes, expected costs, and how these costs are typically broken down?

Hydroxy acids have been shown to be effective in increasing cell turnover, production of collagen and fibroblast proliferation, resulting in effective treatments for photo-ageing, wrinkles, fine lines, acne, ichthyosis, hyperpigmentation, sallowness, roughness and rosacea.
Ascorbic acid has been shown to reduce deep wrinkles, fine lines, skin roughness and hyperpigmentation. It also reduces trans epidermal water loss. In addition, formulations combining Ascorbic acid and Tocopherol are effective in protecting the skin from UVA and UVB radiation. Their protective value is additive when combined with sunscreen.
Zinc based sunscreen is generally viewed as the best option in sunscreens. It has protection against both UVA and UVB light rays and is non irritating to the skin. It is more difficult to formulate than chemical sunscreens, but offers superior and instant UV protection and is not toxic.
Like alpha hydroxy acids, Polyhydroxy acids have been shown to reduce the effects of photo-ageing such as wrinkles, fine lines, hyperpigmentation, shallowness and roughness. While marginally less efficacious than AHAs, Polyhydroxy acids are less irritating on the skin. Polyhydroxy acids have been found to be compatible with clinically sensitive skin, including rosacea and atopic dermatitis and can be used after cosmetic procedures. Hyaluronic acid has been shown in studies to increase both skin hydration and elasticity.
Retinal is a vitamin A derivative that has been shown to reduce fine lines and wrinkles, increase dermal thickness and reduce cutaneous stiffness.
Retinal has equal clinical efficacy to prescription grade Tretinoin but less irritation than Tretinoin. Glycolic acid stabilises and increases the bioavailability of Retinal; Niacinamid is an antioxidant.
Palmitoyl Oligopeptide (Pal-GHK or glycine-histidine-lysine), is designed to deliver a type 1 collagen molecule fragment to the skin in order to stimulate a feedback loop resulting in the production of new collagen. Palmitoyl Tetrapeptide-7 is believed to suppress the production of interlukin-6, which promotes inflammation and degradation of the skin matrix. While there is some reasonable evidence for the efficacy of the combination, it has been extensively used and its safety and tolerability is well established. In addition botanical anti-inflammatory and skin conditioning (moisturising) agents (e.g.. Shea butter, Aloe Vera, sweet almond oil and carrageenan) are also included.
